Exploring Your Contraceptive Options

Choosing the right contraceptive method is an important decision that can affect your health and lifestyle. At our Pharmacy+Health branches, we’ll discuss with you your options and offer guidance to make sure you find what works best for you.

At Pharmacy+Health, we offer advice and access to contraceptive methods, including:

The POP Pill

The progestogen-only pill, commonly known as the POP pill, is a popular choice for many women. It’s an effective birth control option that works by thickening the mucus in the cervix to prevent sperm from reaching an egg.

Eligibility for the POP Pill

From first menstruation up to and including 54 years of age.

Advantages of the POP Pill

* Suitable for Most Women: Especially for those who cannot use oestrogen-based contraceptives.

* Ease of Use: Taken daily, it doesn’t interfere with sexual activity.

The COC Pill

The combined oral contraceptive pill, or COC pill, contains both oestrogen and progestogen. It’s another effective method that not only prevents pregnancy but can also regulate menstrual cycles and reduce period pain.

Eligibility for the COC Pill

From first menstruation up to and including 49 years of age

Advantages of the COC Pill

* Regulates Periods: Can help with menstrual cycle irregularities.

* Reduces Menstrual Cramps: Offers relief from period pain.

Exclusion Criteria:

A person will not be eligible for this service if:

• They are considered clinically unsuitable, or are excluded for supply of oral contraceptive according to the PGD protocols, including, but not limited to:

– Individuals under 16 years of age and assessed as not competent using Fraser Guidelines

– Individuals 16 years of age and over and assessed as lacking capacity to consent.

Our pharmacists will help you decide on the best method for your lifestyle and health needs.
