Hepatitis B is a highly infectious liver infection caused by the Hepatitis B virus (HBV). It spreads through contact with infected blood or bodily fluids, and while many cases are short-term, the virus can become chronic and lead to serious health issues including liver damage, cirrhosis, or liver cancer.
For individuals in certain occupations, the risk of exposure to HBV is significantly higher. Vaccination is the most effective way to prevent infection and protect both yourself and those you work with.
At Pharmacy+Health, our Hepatitis B vaccination service provides convenient, local protection for those most at risk. If you’re eligible, you can get vaccinated quickly and professionally – without needing to see a GP
All our staff carrying out vaccinations have been trained and follow a prescribed process, to ensure your safety and comfort. If you do not like needles, please don’t be concerned and do mention it to our team during your vaccination appointment. They will be able to provide reassurance and make the process as stress-free as possible.
Who Should Get the Hepatitis B Vaccine?
This service is suitable for adults over the age of 16 who are at increased risk of Hepatitis B exposure through their profession, including:
Clinical staff (including students/trainees) with direct patient contact
Laboratory staff handling Hepatitis B materials
Emergency services personnel – police, fire, and rescue
Prison staff and those working in secure environments
Foster carers and adoptive families (especially for children from high-risk countries)

If your work involves exposure to blood, body fluids, sharp instruments, or close personal contact, you may be at risk and eligible for this private service.
You will be assessed during a free consultation to confirm eligibility and discuss any medical history or medication concerns.
Our trained clinicians will assess your suitability for vaccination during your appointment. The vaccine is safe for most people, though some exclusions apply.

Why Occupational Health Vaccinations Matter
Protecting your health isn’t just about you, it’s about keeping your team, patients, and workplace safe. Many employers require Hepatitis B vaccination as part of workplace health & safety policies or risk assessments.
Vaccination can:
Prevent time off work due to illness
Reduce risk of workplace transmission
Provide peace of mind for you and those you work with
Many of the conditions that we offer vaccines for, are very prevalent in the UK population and can make you feel very unwell or worse. The NHS typically offers these vaccinations but with eligibility criteria limiting their availability. Paying to vaccinate yourself, if you are not eligible, is an investment in your health and wellbeing.
Widely available across Yorkshire communities at Pharmacy+Health branches, this service provides convenient access to a range of vaccines, to protect you against specific diseases.
These vaccines may not be available through the NHS to all patients. With the symptoms and consequences of some of these common diseases being very serious, getting vaccinated through our paid-for service, can be a wise investment in your future health.
What to Expect During Your Appointment
Consultation: Our trained vaccinator will review your medical history and confirm your eligibility.
Vaccination: The vaccine will be administered in in your deltoid muscle.

Frequently Asked Questions
Many different vaccines are prevalent in society and being vaccinated protects you, your loved ones and the wider community. Unfortunately whilst the NHS vaccinate millions of people for many different conditions each year, their eligibility criteria mean that some vaccines are not available for many people. Our affordable, paid-for Vaccination Service enables you to quickly book and receive the vaccinations you want. Protecting you and those around you.
Our trained staff will welcome you into the consultation room, confirm which vaccine you’re to receive and which arm you would prefer to have the jab in. Please tell them at this point if you are nervous about injections. Once the jab is complete, they may ask you to remain seated, either in the consultation room or the main part of the pharmacy to be observed for a period of time.
No, Hepatitis B for occupational health purposes is not provided by the NHS. This is a private service and is paid by the individual or their employer.
Whilst the NHS commissions both pharmacies and GPs to provide a range of vaccinations for those at the highest risk and where the population health benefit is greatest, this excludes some individuals. Our affordable paid-for service opens up the choice to be vaccinated to everyone.
Possibly. It depends on which vaccinations and what your pharmacist advises. If you would like to book multiple vaccinations, please phone or visit your preferred branch, discuss it with the pharmacist and ask them to book you in for an appointment once you have agreed the best approach with them.
